The interaction of 20 nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs with a mode
l protein was studied by reversed-phase highperformance liquid chromat
ography and the relationship between the strength of interaction and t
he physicochemical. parameters of drugs was elucidated by principal co
mponent analysis followed by modified nonlinear mapping and cluster an
alysis. It was established that the polarity and and sterical paramete
rs of drugs exert the highest influence on the interaction. Cluster an
alysis and nonlinear mapping using the absolute values of principal co
mponent loadings explain more precisely the interaction than the tradi
tional nonlinear mapping and cluster analysis do.
