Abstract
Fertilized embryos of zebrafish (Danio rerio) were exposed to 8 differ ent sediments and their corresponding elutriates for 48 hours. Differe nt toxicological endpoints were investigated and it could be shown tha t this test system is able to detect toxic potential of sediments. The refore, it can be used as a model for assessing sediment toxicity on v ertebrates and should be involved in a tiered test strategy.
