Abstract
The dinuclear cyclopalladated compounds [Pd(mu-Cl)Ln](2) (2) [HLn = rh o-CnH2n+1OC6H4CH=NC6H4OCnH2n+1-rho (n = 6, 8, and 10)] react with silv er thiolates AgSRm (Rm: CmH2m+1, m = 6, 8, 10, and 18) to give dinucle ar derivatives with mixed bridges [Pd-2(mu-Cl)(mu-SRm)Ln(2)] (3). Trea tment of derivatives 2 with silver acetate (Pd/AgOAc = 2:1) or treatme nt of [Pd(mu-Ac)Ln](2) (1) with thiols HSRm (Pd/thiol = 2:1) affords a cetato-thiolato bridged complexes [Pd-2(mu-OAc)(mu-SRm)Ln(2)] (4). In addition to their mesogenic behavior, the most interesting feature of these complexes is the cis disposition of the palladium-imine moieties , that can be inferred from their H-1-NMR spectra. The cis structure a s well as the disposition of the bridges was confirmed by the diffract ion study of 3 (n = m = 4).
