Abstract
Current evidence shows that ''talent'' is an unreliable concept, but t he competing concept of ''expertise'' suffers from inadequacies too: i ts research designs are structurally incomplete (talent and training a re confounded) and individual factors are largely ignored. The deliber ate practice account should be advanced hy investigating in more detai l the motivational and individual determinants of successful practice.
