Gamma-irradiation can be used for the sterilization of some Tc-99m-lab
elled freeze dried kits. in connection with this the effect of gamma-r
adiation on Sn(II) content, radiochemical purity, in-vitro stability a
nd biological distribution of some currently used Tc-99m-labelled kits
has been investigated. For irradiation the certain radiation steriliz
ation doses (25 and 50 kGy) were used. A variable decrease of Sn(II) c
ontent was observed in all gamma-irradiated kits. The losses are in th
e order of 10-25% compared with die Sn(II) content of original ones. T
he colour of the irradiated kits did not changed except DTPA which dev
eloped yellow colour after irradiation. For the irradiated and origina
l kits nearly the same pH were found. The irradiated kits seemed to un
dergo partial decomposition or chemical alteration which led to some d
eviation of the biological distribution of them.
