This paper discusses recent progress made in the measurement and analy
sis of atomic lifetimes using the beam-foil technique. In particular t
he problems associated with measurements for short-lived (ps) levels a
nd levels subject to significant cascade repopulation will be addresse
d. A review will also be presented of recent experimental and theoreti
cal studies of the decay-dynamics for quartet levels in the 2s2p3p and
3d configurations along the B I isoelectronic sequence.
