Abstract
A hybrid mesh technique is used in conjunction with an elastic-plastic finite-element method to model the ring rolling process incorporating a full ring mesh analysis. The hybrid mesh technique consists of a ma terial mesh and a computational mesh system. The computational mesh is used in the actual finite-element computation and derives its geometr y from the material mesh system where data such as updated nodal posit ions and field variables are stored. Special tool modelling techniques are also used to model the process effectively. Both rectangular and V-section profiles are simulated taking into account the use of axial rolls. Lateral spread and the variation of field variables are observe d during the simulation. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights res erved.
