Abstract
Whereas a sizeable configuration interaction has been detected earlier between the ground 4f(2) configuration of Pr3+ and the excited 4f6p c onfiguration, it is shown here that for Tm3+ (4f(12)) at the other end of the rare earth series, there is evidence of a 4f(12)5p(6)/4f(13)5p (5) interaction.
