Before science and technology studies can play more important roles in
the research agendas for science communication, science and engineeri
ng education and science and technology policy, the field must first r
estore its credibility among scientists, address its internal fragment
ation, and reestablish its relevance to public affairs. Accomplishing
these goals will require the reassessment of tools and approaches that
the field has already developed as well as an open appraisal of where
the field has fallen short in the past.
