Abstract
Measurements are presented of the extinction coefficients for two labo ratory-generated clouds of ice crystals, each with different size dist ributions and concentrations. The shape of the extinction curve for bo th clouds, over the wavelength range of 0.5-1.05 mu m, is similar to t hat of the absorption curve for bulk ice. This data has been used to d etermine the single scattering albedo over the same wavelength range a nd it is found that the results are significantly different to the gen erally accepted values.
