S. Louhenkilpi et al., REAL-TIME SIMULATION OF HEAT-TRANSFER IN CONTINUOUS-CASTING, Metallurgical transactions. B, Process metallurgy, 24(4), 1993, pp. 685-693
A real-time heat-transfer model for continuous slab casting is present
ed. The model calculates the strand temperatures and the solid shell t
hickness profile along the machine as a function of the actual casting
variables, strand geometry, and steel grade. The special requirements
concerning the real-time use of the model and, in general, the accura
cy of the model are also studied and discussed. The model has been tes
ted by carrying out industrial trials. Some examples of the difference
s between the calculated and measured surface temperatures are present
ed. A special procedure to determine the boundary conditions for the s
econdary cooling zones from temperature measurements is also described
.
