H. Nakanishi et al., TEMPERATURE-DEPENDENCE OF DENSITY OF MOLTEN GERMANIUM MEASURED BY A NEWLY DEVELOPED ARCHIMEDIAN TECHNIQUE, Journal of crystal growth, 191(4), 1998, pp. 711-717
We have developed a technique to reduce the diameter of the rod which
holds a sinker used for density measurements by the Archimedian method
from 0.3 to 2.0 mm. Thus, the influence of the surface tension on the
rod can be canceled by extrapolation of the rod diameter to d = 0. Th
is technique was applied to germanium melt for different temperatures.
With increasing temperature the density decreased linearly. The obtai
ned densities at 1223-1542 K show slightly higher values to those repo
rted earlier. The temperature gradient is determined by partial deriva
tive rho/partial derivative T = - 4.42 x 10(-4) g/cm(3) K. This is in
good agreement with the value reported by Tokizaki. Moreover, it is sl
ightly lower than the value reported by Glazov. (C) 1998 Elsevier Scie
