Abstract
A nonparametric method is suggested for estimating the mass and lumino sity functions of star clusters. Numerical simulations are used to sho w that the method is suitable for the analysis of observational data o btained with modem telescopes with small fields of view. A method is a lso suggested for the identification of possible luminosity (mass) fun ction cutoffs at low stellar masses.
