The plasma stream rising from the base of a magnetic arcade along the
magnetic lines of force is studied theoretically in the framework of a
dynamic prominence model. The stream velocity is determined by the st
ructure of the emitting region in the arch, and this structure depends
on the heat conduction regime along the magnetic field. A simple form
ula for the upward stream velocity is obtained for the case when the t
emperature dependence of the longitudinal thermal conductivity has the
form chi = chi(o)T(5/2). The velocity calculated using this theoretic
al formula agrees with the upward stream velocity measured for spectra
l lines in the transition region.
