The structure of pentalead molybdenum octaoxide, Pb5MoO8, has been det
ermined by single-crystal X-ray methods. The crystal structure is a 4:
3:2 superstructure of tetragonal alpha-PbO (litharge), with embodied M
oO42- tetrahedra. Infinite double chains of OPb4 tetrahedra are formed
. Along these chains, the OPb4 tetrahedra share vertices. Two of the O
atoms form three nearly coplanar bonds with Pb atoms.
