Basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC) is an aggressive variant of sq
uamous cell carcinoma (SCC) that was first described in 1986. In the E
nglish literature, only 28 cases of this histopathological entity have
been reported in the larynx. Proliferative features of this infrequen
t tumor were investigated by proliferating cell nuclear antigen immuno
reactivity, and the presence of P53 mutation was also investigated in
a series of 4 cases. BSCC was found to share similar features with reg
ular SCC in terms of its proliferation rate and P53 mutation positivit
y, as well as biological behavior and clinical outcome.
