Fa. Mael, SINGLE-SEX AND COEDUCATIONAL SCHOOLING - RELATIONSHIPS TO SOCIOEMOTIONAL AND ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT, Review of educational research, 68(2), 1998, pp. 101-129
The role of coeducation versus separate-sex schooling in the academic,
socioemotional, interpersonal, and career development of adolescents
is discussed. Arguments and research support for both types of schooli
ng are reviewed. Separate-sex schooling seems to provide potential aca
demic and attitudinal benefits for at least some students. The limitat
ions of current research are discussed, and directions for further res
earch are offered.
