Two articles that appear in this journal present unique ethnographic a
ssessments of the commercial sex industry in Thailand. They discuss ho
w culture, society, and organizations interact with respect to communi
cation approaches, information dissemination, and organizational-behav
ior change in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS. Each of these article
s provides important insights into the many factors that have intensif
ied the epidemic as well as those identified opportunities for concert
ed community organization, behavioral reinforcement, and social struct
ural approaches for HIV/AIDS prevention and control.
