Abstract
The phase evolution during reaction sintering of stoichiometric mixtur es of CaCO3/(6-x)Al2O3/ xFe(2)O(3) was investigated. The microstructur al evolution as a function of iron content and firing temperature was also studied. It was found that the appearance during sintering of sev eral intermediate phases (CA, CA, and CAF(2)) as well as the phase evo lution during the Ca0.6(Al,Fe)(2)O-3 solid solution formulation and th e final microstructures after sintering, call be explained by means of the CaO-Al2O3-Fe2O3 phase equilibrium diagram.
