The dynamic instability of laminated composite circular cylindrical sh
ells subjected to periodic load is studied using a C degrees shear fle
xible two-noded axisymmetric shell element. The formulation includes t
he effects of inplane and rotary terms. The boundaries of the principa
l instability regions are conveniently represented in the non-dimensio
nal excitation frequency-non-dimensional load amplitude plane. The eff
ects of various parameters such as ply-angle, thickness, aspect-ratio,
axial and circumferential wave numbers on dynamic stability are broug
