Abstract
The present investigation attempts to evaluate the effect of ultrasoni c treatment using water-cooled resonator on the microstructure and pro perties of different commercial Al-based alloys. The effect of ultraso nic treatment on the as-cast alloy microstructure can be summarized as follows: reduction of mean grain size, variation of phase distributio n and better material homogeneity and segregation control. Ultrasonica lly treated samples have elongation values much higher than those obta inable with control processes. Our investigations confirm great advant ages of ultrasonically treated ingots of hypereutectic AI-Si alloys up on deformation in semisolid state. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
