Abstract
Mixed Mn-Zn ferrites are prepared by the double sintering ceramic meth od. The ultrasonic compressional velocity (V-l) and shear velocity (V- s) in these ferrites are measured at room temperature by the ultrasoni c pulse transmission technique. The elastic moduli of the specimens ar e computed and corrected to zero porosity. The variation of the elasti c moduli with composition is interpreted in terms of binding forces be tween the atoms of the spinel lattice. The lattice parameters of the s pecimens are evaluated from the X-ray diffraction studies. The linear variation of these parameters with composition has been explained on t he basis of the tetrahedral ionic radius. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B. V. All rights reserved.
