NEW SYSTEM FOR THE INTERCONNECTION OF ATM NETWORKS VIA WIRELESS LINKS

The authors analyse the introduction of a wireless link between two no des in an ATM network for the transmission of data and multimedia serv ices. The ATM cell structure and length are modified in the wireless l ink in order to operate in a satisfactory way. The adoption of error c ontrol techniques is also analysed. The performance of the proposed sc heme has been evaluated for wireless channels with and without memory. For memoryless channels, a theoretical analysis and computer simulati ons have been performed, while for channels with memory, the performan ce has been evaluated only through computer simulations. The results s how that the proposed communication scheme is quite efficient and can permit satisfactory performance on the wireless link.
