Abstract
Self-Consistent Nuclear Energy System simultaneously satisfying four o bjectives: energy generation, fuel breeding, transmutation of radionuc lides and system safety has been proposed as a new phylosophical basis for further nuclear development. Transmutation of radionuclides is cl osely connected with the key element of Self-Consistent option - exces s neutron generation which is assumed to be provided by external neutr on source. The paper presented makes a special emphasis on excess neut ron generation in fusion neutron source based on DD plasma. (C) 1997 P ublished by Elsevier Science Ltd.
