From November 1991 to December 1996, 158 patients of whom 137 were Gab
onese were examined at the Hospital Center of Libreville (department o
f internal medicine ''B'') for a thyroid disorder: The retrospective a
nalysis of their files showed a large majority of women (94.2%) and th
e main diseases were euthyroidgoiter (54.7%) Graves' disease(13.1 %),
hypothyroidism (8.8%) thyroiditis (6.6%), toxic muitinodular goiter (6
.6%) while about 10% of goiters remained unclassified.
