Abstract
The Chinese herbal formula Suching-huo-hsuei-tang (SHT) was studied to evaluate its efficacy and possible mechanism on adjuvant - induced ar thritis (AIA) in rats. SHT was extracted with water, butanol and chlor oform into 5 different layers. The top 3 layers of SHT showed a signif icant suppression of AIA and writhing reaction; the top 2 layers suppr essed neutrophil chemotaxis and platelet aggregation. The results sugg est that SHT is very promising in the treatment of rheumatoid arthriti s (RA) by way of its anti-inflammatory and analgesic action. The possi ble mechanisms for arthritis are multifactorial.
