WHO ROLE IN THE PROGRAM OF TUBERCULOSIS-CONTROL IN THE WORLD

A brief history of the tuberculosis control programme is described. Th e basic issues of the programme, like BCG vaccination and case-finding are analyzed and the role of the specific Expert Committee is pointed out. Special emphasis on the task of PAHO and the Chilean participati on was considered very important. The relationship between tuberculosi s and HIV infection and AIDS is underlined as an emergent and relevant aspect of the epidemiological situation of tuberculosis, a real probl em in the future.
