Abstract
This article summarizes recent and ongoing efforts in the area of adju vant interferon treatment for cutaneous melanoma. Interferon therapy t argets the immune system in an attempt to cure high-risk melanoma. Mor e than a decade of interferon research has culminated in the successfu l application of interferon-alpha-2b in melanoma, with significantly p rolonged survival in patients at high risk for recurrence after surgic al resection.
