Monolayers of the methane derivative CF3H physisorbed on graphite have
been investigated by calorimetry. The coverage-temperature phase diag
ram of a previous diffraction study has been refined. The melting and
the antiferroelectric phase transition of the monolayer solid are iden
tified as first-order transitions. The layering of the second monolaye
r shows a large thermal hysteresis. The presence of the second layer c
hanges the structural phase transition temperature of the monolayer.
