The brominated polyethylene whose the synthesis and the properties wer
e described in part I (this journal) has been used as an intermediate
for the synthesis of a new polymeric hindered amine stabilizer. Nucleo
philic substitution of bromine atoms was performed with 4- amino,2,2,6
,6-tetramethylpiperidine and results in a partial grafting of tetramet
hylpiperidine group in the polymer chain (approximate to 42%) together
with the formation of unsaturated group (approximate to 5%). This new
additive is reasonably stable itself and present good stabilizing pro
perties in the photo- and the thermo-oxidation of elastomers like EPDM
and polyoctenamer. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Limited. All rights rese
