Abstract
The wavelength sensitivity of photodegradation of polymethylmethacryla te (PMMA) in the presence of beta-carotene was studied by optical abso rption and GPC measurements. Main-chain scission without gel formation was observed. It was found that main-chain scission of PMMA was accel erated by the addition of beta-carotene. The threshold wavelength for main-chain scission of PMMA containing beta-carotene shifted to a long er wavelength (400 nm) compared to that of PMMA with no additive (320n m).
