G. Bachet et al., LASER-INDUCED FLUORESCENCE OBSERVATIONS OF A MULTIPOLAR ARGON DISCHARGE, Physics of fluids. B, Plasma physics, 5(8), 1993, pp. 3097-3102
Observations carried out with a laser-induced fluorescence diagnostic
on several configurations of a multipolar discharge are presented. Thi
s diagnostic allows very accurate measurements of the ion velocity dis
tribution function in the argon plasma and reveals the presence of dou
ble-hump velocity distribution functions due to ion acceleration in th
e static plasma potential and ion reflection on a multipolar magnetic
field. These observations give a new insight to ion temperature and io
n drifts inside the device.
