Ca. Hodson et al., NALTREXONE TREATMENT ATTENUATES THE INHIBITORY EFFECT OF NICOTINE TREATMENT ON SERUM LH IN RATS, Life sciences, 53(10), 1993, pp. 839-846
The hypothesis that endogenous opioids might have a role in mediating
the suppressive effects of nicotine on serum LH concentrations in rats
was investigated. Naltrexone treatment prevented the inhibitory effec
t of high doses of nicotine on serum LH concentrations. Nicotine treat
ment also prevented the stimulatory effect of naltrexone on serum LH c
oncentrations. These results suggest that the inhibitory effects of ni
cotine on serum LH concentrations involve an opioidergic component.
