Sm. Ju et Gg. Bi, A ALGORITHM OF DYNAMICALLY ASSIGNING UPSTREAM BANDWIDTH OF HYBRID FIBER-COAX NETWORKS, IEEE transactions on broadcasting, 44(3), 1998, pp. 330-335
The contradiction between the shortness upstream bandwidth of hybrid f
iber-coax (HFC) networks and a large number of services to be transmit
ted, is very sharp. Specially, a part of bandwidth assigned to real-ti
me variable bid rate (rt-VBR) services, is redundancy. Thus, the algor
ithm of assigning upstream bandwidth must have high bandwidth multiple
xing. The algorithm described here bases on ATM's traffic descriptor p
arameters and the quality of service (QoS) parameters, and is designed
for rt-VBR services. The algorithm utilizes the bursts and cell loss
rate of rt-VBR services to multiplex bandwidth. The algorithm has also
the function of call admission control.
