Recurrent unexplained syncope is a common and often frustrating clinic
al problem in paediatrics. Over the last decade, head upright tilt tab
le testing has emerged as an important diagnostic method for the ident
ification of patients whose syncope is likely to be neurocardiogenic i
n origin. At the same time, tilt fable testing, by providing syncopal
episodes in a controlled setting, has allowed for a greater understand
ing of their physiopathology. Treatment strategies remain controversia
l but P-blocker therapy appears to be very efficient. (C) 1998, Elsevi
