Abstract
[CO((Bu2PH)-P-t)(2)I-2] (1) reacts with [Ru-3(CO)(12)] in refluxing to luene to give a mixture of products including the novel metal clusters Ru-3(CO)(6)(mu-H)(mu-I)(2)(mu-PBu2t)((Bu2PH)-P-t)] (2) and [Ru-3(CO)( 7)(mu-H)(mu-I)(mu-PBu2t)(2)] (3) besides the known complex [Ru-3(CO)(8 )(mu-H)(2)(mu(3)-PBut)((Bu2PH)-P-t)] (4). No cluster expansion product s could be observed. Thus the cobalt compound acts merely as a phosphi ne and iodine transfer reagent. The molecular structures of the metal complexes 1 and 2 were determined by single-crystal X-ray structure an alyses. 1 crystallizes in the tetragonal space group <P(4)over bar>2(1 )c with a = 13.230(3), b = 13.230(3), c = 14.788(3)Angstrom, V = 2588. 4(9)Angstrom(3). 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/c with a = 18.161(2), b = 10.292(2), c = 18.381(2)Angstrom, beta = 108.7 3(10)degrees, V = 3253.7(8)Angstrom(3).
