An all-optical clock recovery module is developed and tested in a 10Gb
it/s 105 km transmission experiment. A penalty free function of the op
tical clock relative to an electronic phase-locked loop is demonstrate
d. The compact module is wavelength and polarisation insensitive and r
equires nu electrical radiofrequency equipment. Continuous frequency t
uning from 5 to 22 GHz indicates thr potential for bit rate flexible c
lock recovery.
