Av. Tulub et al., ELECTRON-DENSITY IN THE INTERIOR OF NUCLEI WITH ALLOWANCE FOR QED EFFECTS IN THE MANY-ELECTRON THEORY OF ATOMS, Physics of atomic nuclei, 61(4), 1998, pp. 520-524
In the atoms of heavy elements, the Lamb shift of orbital energies-pre
dominantly of the Is-orbital energy-leads to the redistribution of the
electron density, primarily of the electron density in nuclei. An eff
ective one-electron potential is used to simulate QED effects. With th
e aid of perturbation theory implemented within the mean-field method,
the changes in the average electron density and in the electron densi
ty at the nuclear surface are estimated at 30-35%. Changes in observab
les are found to be comparatively small. The proposed approach reprodu
ces the experimental optical spectrum of Pt67+ to within 0.02%.
