Abstract
The density matrix for pure and mixed quantum states of a symmetric ro tor is expressed in terms of a positive normalized marginal distributi on. An equation (alternative to the Schrodinger equation) for energy l evels and time-independent states of a symmetric rotor is obtained for the marginal distribution. The example of spin-one states of a rotor is considered.
