K. Pendakur et R. Pendakur, THE COLOR OF MONEY - EARNINGS DIFFERENTIALS AMONG ETHNIC-GROUPS IN CANADA, Canadian journal of economics, 31(3), 1998, pp. 518-548
The literature on ethnically based earnings differentials in Canada ha
s focused on differences either between whites and visible minorities
or between particular ethnic groups. In this paper we examine both ear
nings differentials between whites and visible minorities, and earning
s differentials within the white and visible-minority groupings. Among
both men and women we find substantial earnings differentials both be
tween and within the white and visible-minority groupings. Differentia
ls between whites and visible minorities suggest that the visible-mino
rity category is a useful indicator of economic discrimination. Differ
entials within these groupings, however, suggest that it is only a rou
gh indicator.
