Df. Grosz et Hl. Fragnito, PULSE DISTORTION AND INDUCED PENALTIES DUE TO MODULATION INSTABILITY IN WDM SYSTEMS, Microwave and optical technology letters, 19(2), 1998, pp. 149-152
Modulation instability (MI) interactions in WDM optical communication
systems are shown to give rise to pulse distortion. These distortions
are shown to be dependent on the data modulation format. The RZ modula
tion format gives rise to less pulse distortion than NRZ even in the a
bsence of amplifier noise. Power penalties paid for both modulation fo
rmats are the same. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
