Abstract
Inclusive neutron multiplicity distributions associated with 197 MeV p roton-, 188 MeV deuteron- and 214 MeV He-4-induced spallation reaction s on thick (l = 2-25; cm) Pb targets are presented, together with dist ributions associated with nuclear-reaction events. The mean neutron mu ltiplicity per incident particle, [n/p], which is a crucial parameter for applications on accelerator-driven neutron sources, has been obtai ned for various conditions. For the thickest targets used in this work , all distribution characteristics are found nearly identical for reac tions induced by protons and deuterons. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
