Choline supplementation during the second half of the gestational peri
od in rats permanently improves visuospatial memory. Choline availabil
ity during this period also alters the turnover of choline and acetylc
holine in the hippocampus in 3-4-week-old animals in a complex pattern
consistent with the notion that cholinergic neurotransmission is enha
nced by prenatal choline supplementation. ((C)Elsevier, Paris).
