Abstract
In this paper, the damage progression of a loaded aluminium plate irra diated by CO2 laser was analysed using grid method and the micrography technique. The residual deformations near the illuminated area at dif ferent irradiation times were obtained. Using the micrography techniqu e, the propagation process of the minute crack was recorded. Furthermo re, the residual stength of the specimen after illumination was invest igated. The experimental results are discussed in detail. (C) 1998 Els evier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
