Twelve inbred rye lines obtained from seven independent self-fertility
sources were tested for self-fertility mutations (sf mutations) at th
e S incompatibility locus with the use of isozyme marker Prx7. The sou
rces of self-fertility were individual self-fertile plants found in va
rious rye populations. Inbred F-2 families between self-incompatible p
lants of the Volkhova cultivar and 12 self-fertile lines demonstrated.
a characteristic deviation in the segregation for the Prx7 locus, all
owing sf mutations in only three self-fertile lines at the S locus to
be revealed. Various hybrids derived from these lines demonstrated sim
ilar linkage patterns between the Prx7 and S loci; the recombination f
requency between them was 1.7 +/- 0.8%. Two of three related lines obt
ained from a self-fertile weed rye plant were shown to bear sf mutatio
ns not only at the S locus. Seven lines showed no mutations at the S l
ocus.
