Peculiarities of callus formation and shoot-inducing in vitro were stu
died in strains and F-1 interstrain hybrids of strawberry Fragaria ves
ca. The strains were marked by genes affecting the structure and type
of plant development (ast1, ast2, ae, etc). To induce callus formation
, an MS medium containing 1 mg/l of BAP and 1 mg/l of NAA was used, an
d leaf plates were taken as explants. The intensity of shoot-inducing
was examined on explants of apical buds in a medium with 1 mg/l of BAP
. The strains differed in callus-formation intensity and shoot-inducin
g, the size and color of calli, and by response to experimental condit
ions, i.e., the season. The F-1 hybrids showed intermediate expression
of callus-formation intensity, a dominance of large calli over small,
and white color over green. A low tillering ability dominated over me
dium and high, which corresponded with the inheritance of this charact
er in vivo.
