Abstract
This paper describes a simple method of evaluating the collapse streng th and post-collapse behavior of oil field tubulars subjected to exter nal pressure. The method is based on elastic ovalization and subsequen t plastic collapse by formation of a four-hinge mechanism. The resulti ng predictions of collapse strength are compared with available collap se test data, and other existing collapse equations. For post-collapse behavior, model predictions are compared with available experimental and numerical data The main attraction of che approach is its versatil ity, demonstrated through application to collapse of perforated and sl otted liners, prepacked screens, and its extension to collapse under n on-uniform loading.
