Abstract
The are-fault circuit interrupter is beginning to emerge as a new prod uct in residential applications in the U.S. to protect against conditi ons that mag cause fire, This paper provides some of the background re garding its emergence as a product, and the function it is intended to provide. The evolving technology may also lend itself to industrial a pplications, as the potential applications become sufficiently well un derstood.
