Abstract
What is certain is that rue will age. Demonizing this inevitability ha rdly encourages people to get on with the distinctive work often possi ble for the first time only in life's later years. That work calls for the belated recognition and some integration of humanity's enduring a mbivalences: we are both angels and animals, both natural creatures an d societally nurtured.
