Abstract
This paper will demonstrate that the degree of linearisation of the yi eld surface has a major impact on the bearing capacity, when the lower bound theorem of ideal plasticity for reinforced concrete slabs combi ned with linear mathematical programming methods are applied. The fini te element descretization is applied and it is shown that the influenc e of a refinement of the yield surface linearisation may be more impor tant than the refinement of the geometrical mesh.
